Our Youth Need Some Love!
Let me tell you why I love my job. One of my first tasks was asking the kids why Riverzedge Arts is important to them for one of our outgoing communications, and a fifteen-year-old trans artist told me: "It's a safe space that I've never had before. This is more of a home than I've ever had."
And I cried. Like a baby.
Every day, the amazing people I work with are doing everything they can to give teens like this one a place to feel safe, supported, and loved. And they do a lot more. Teens at Riverzedge Arts get amazing career training in fields like graphic design, commercial photography, and other arts that they can actually use to build a sustainable career.
Beyond that, teens who need it get access to tutors, mental health counselors, and free food/hygiene products through our Youth Supply Center.
If we can send a little love to Riverzedge Arts, we can give teens in northern RI a place to learn, grow, and become professional artists—a place where they feel safe, welcome, and nurtured even when they're not at home. And for some of them, this is the only place where they feel that way.
Riverzedge Arts even pays teens to participate, which means the kids most in need can join the studio instead of getting trapped in some dead-end job like the one I had in high school.
If you can give even just a little, I can tell you firsthand that it will make a world of difference to a kid who needs your help.
